It’s wildly complicated. It’s German. It’s 13 years old. Parts are expensive - probably needs 3 grand spent on the front end right now. Black - shows the dirt. Any of this working?

Enjoy finding timing chain parts. Which you will need.

Enjoy taking the engine out for services that shouldn’t require taking the engine out. (Including timing chain jobs. Which you will need to do.)

On the other hand, opening up the exhaust can cause instant orgasm upon reaching 6000 RPM or so. So, it might be worth it.

I say do it. Worst case scenario it fails catastrophically and you sell it for $1k or junk it. $3k is a small price to pay for adventure.

I saw one at the service center in Bloomington, IN while I was getting my Jetta serviced a few years ago. A soccer mom-type got out of the driver seat and I said, “I really like your wagon. W8 and all-wheel drive. Awesome.” She looked at me like I had 4 heads.

The undeserving are frustrating to me.

$3000 is just the price of admission. If you want to have it as a daily driver, expect to spend $1500 to $3000 EVERY YEAR keeping it maintained and in a good state of repair.

And if you keep it for a long time... like 5+ years, you will have at least one year where your spending will exceed $3000 in maintenance and repairs.

That’s what I predict.

With cars like this, it’s not a question whether you can afford to buy it.

It’s whether you can afford to run and maintain it properly.

Let’s hope my dad is lol. He takes care of maintenance and such but I take care of any modifications or stuff like that.
